Assisted living is a relatively new concept in elder services. It's a
residential community for those who are no longer able to live in their own
home and care for themselves. An assisted living community combines the best of
all worlds; residents have a private living space that varies in size from a
studio to a one or two bedroom unit. |

Laundry, transportation, and cleaning services as
well as some social activities are available at additional fees. Facilities
offer 2-3 meals a day in a restaurant-like atmosphere. There is the security of
knowing that help is always available in an emergency. Residents are able to
enjoy living independently while free of the stresses of caring for a large
home.
Dining rooms, large community spaces, and planned social activities decrease
the social isolation of seniors and create daily opportunities to socialize and
form new friendships. Some facilities even permit residents to bring their
small pets to live with them.
Some assisted living facilities specialize in safe and secure environments for
people living with dementia.
The LifePlans' Provider Pathway network of providers includes facilities across
the country offering a discount to LifePlans' clients. Because of our
discounted contractual fees, many of our clients are able to save thousands of
dollars every year they live in the facility. |

Karen called the Provider Pathway
from her car while traveling to check on her two elderly parents in another
state. She knew they could no longer care for themselves and wanted them to
relocate to an assisted living facility near her own home. Her parents had been
resisting such a move for a long time. Her father had limited vision and was
helping to supervise and care for her mother who was diagnosed with probable
Alzheimer's disease a year ago and was just recently diagnosed with Parkinson's
disease. Karen was relieved to locate a newly constructed assisted living
facility near her own home that could meet both her mother's need for a secure
unit because of the Alzheimer's disease and her father's need for a residential
environment free of meal preparation and other daily responsibilities. She
called the Provider Pathway to determine whether the facility was in our
network. Her financially conservative father was convinced to move into the
assisted living facility because the LifePlans' Provider Pathway reduced rate
was saving Karen's parents a combined total of almost $800.00 per month on
their rental fees. That's more than $8,000 a year!
